This honey-glazed chicken is a simple, flavorful dish that highlights the natural sweetness of pure honey. A balance of savory soy sauce, garlic, and a touch of citrus creates a rich glaze that caramelizes beautifully as it cooks. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing recipe that works just as well for weeknight meals as it does for special occasions.
Ingredients
2 pounds chicken thighs or chicken breasts
¾ cup honey
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup orange juice (optional, for brightness)
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)
- Optional garnish: sesame seeds or chopped fresh herbs
Instructions
- Prepare the glaze
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, orange juice, Dijon mustard, garlic, and ginger until fully combined.
- Marinate the chicken
- Place the chicken in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour the honey mixture over it. Turn to coat evenly. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for deeper flavor.
- Cook the chicken
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the chicken on a lined baking sheet or oven-safe skillet. Bake for 25–30 minutes, basting once or twice with the glaze, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Finish and serve
- Remove from the oven and allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes. Spoon extra glaze over the top and garnish if desired. Serve warm.
Serving Suggestions
- Pair with rice, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad
- Leftover glaze can be spooned over vegetables or used as a drizzle
Why Honey Works So Well
Honey adds natural sweetness while helping the glaze caramelize, creating a glossy finish and rich flavor without overpowering the dish. Using quality honey enhances both taste and presentation.
